Formerly known for its work in helping to create Siri, Bixby is the result of Samsung’s acquisition of Viv. Viv’s software distinguished itself by having solid bonds to third-party services and apps which Samsung will seemingly leverage to completely control all the native apps on a Galaxy S8.

However, what is more interesting is that Bixby on the Galaxy S8 will seemingly be able to leverage the camera to recognize real world stuff and also make use of text recognition. Samsung will add a Bixby button into the stock camera app on the device that will activate a search tool which can detect anything the camera is presently pointed at. Samsung assistant Bixby will be able to use the camera to recognize text as well, but we don’t know what it will use that data for.
It is similar to what we saw in Google Goggles which could identify objects and show pertinent information. If it will all prove to be true or not, we just need to keep our fingers crossed. Samsung assistant Bixby is rumored to debut the Galaxy S8 in April.
