Google Play Store now adds 4K UHD Movies

Here is some good news for the movie lovers. 4K UHD movies are now available in the Google Play Store. It is now being launched in the US and Canada. You can rent, purchase and stream on some Android TV device as well as the Chromecast Ultra 125 ranging from $7.99 to $29.99.

Streaming is managed by Google’s VP9 codec, with the high-resolution content now playable on the Chromecast Ultra, Sony Bravia Android TVs, or the Xiaomi Mi Box 3. But streaming on the web and other 4K Android TVs is something that is missing.
At the time of launch, 125 movies are available such as Captain Phillips, Star Trek Beyond, Ghostbusters and The Secret Life of Pets. These movies will be symbolized by a 4K badge in the ‘More Information’ section of the Play listing or when pressing buy/rent. Any 4K television shows are missing.
Prices are mostly twice as costly as HD content for older movies with 4K movies starting at $24.99 and HD at $12.99. On the other hand, recent HD releases are generally $14.99 – $19.99, with 4K content appearing to max out at $29.99. Fees are $7.99 versus $3.99.
Play Movies & TV is now accessible for 2016 models of Samsung Smart TVs. The app surfaces acquired and rented media, in addition to an interface to browse the store.
With a stable international growth over the past few years, movies are available for purchase in as many as 117 countries. According to Google, Play Store is the most largely available digital vender of movies as well as TV shows and now 4K UHD movies is a big addition on it.
