Microsoft word is a powerful word processing tool which is being used all around the world by professionals as well as students. Microsoft word comes with many nifty features which make documentation very easy for the user. One such feature in Microsoft Word is the Table of Contents feature which helps users in prioritizing and summarizing their content. Table of contents can be created in Microsoft Word both manually and automatically. Users can manually create Table of Contents by creating paragraph titles themselves, or they can automatically create Table of contents by using the Built-in headings feature.
How to Create Table of Contents Manually in Word
Firstly the user has to choose the style and format of their Table of contents. In a new document go to the other side of the page by pressing the Tab button and then type your page number and select you tab stop character. Next go to Page Layout tab and select Paragraph Dialog box. After doing so select Tabs>Tab stop position and enter where you would like to position your page number. After verifying your alignments select the Leader option and press enter to finish. Repeating this procedure will enable users to make multiple entries in their table of contents.
Create Table of Contents Automatically in Word
Creating table of contents automatically is much simpler in word. It can be done so by using the Heading styles. Heading styles can automatically format your document and adds your entries into the table of contents. Another useful feature of heading styles is that it updates the user documents upon addition or deletion of heading content.
To create Table of contents automatically users simply have to select the content that they would like to add to the table of contents, and then select Home>Styles and select the heading style they would like to use.
