Apple expands its wings

Creating a new hub for AI (artificial intelligence) research, Apple is growing its team in Seattle. The company’s expansion will strengthen relationship with researchers at the University of Washington that announced a $1 million endowment named after Carlos Guestrin, an Apple machine learning team member.
Guestrin noted that the "amazing talent" that comes out of the university — who have many choices, with Amazon and Microsoft headquartered close by. According to a report, enticing top AI researchers to big companies has become so competitive that some universities are struggling to keep staff.

While Apple's AI research takes place across the planet, Washington State has seen the fastest growth outside of California for Apple's staff over the past couple of years. And it isn't the only place Apple is budding. It just revealed a new 175-acre campus in California in addition to a hefty 500,000-square-foot London office. Way to go Apple!
